We are honored to contribute to the Sovereign Cloud Stack project, this project isn’t just about Kubernetes—it’s about ensuring control, reliability, and sovereignty over cloud infrastructure. Our goal is to create an open-source Kubernetes platform that delivers automation, security, and scalability, freeing organizations from vendor lock-in and giving them full ownership of their infrastructure.
The Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS) project is a cornerstone of Europe’s digital sovereignty strategy, ensuring that businesses, public institutions, and cloud providers can operate without dependence on proprietary cloud platforms. The initiative is funded with €13.2 million from BMWK as part of the early development phase of the Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS). This funding plays a crucial role in establishing the foundation for an open, federated, and sovereign cloud infrastructure.
SCS is designed to provide a standardized, federatable, and open cloud and container platform, enabling seamless collaboration between European cloud providers while ensuring compliance with GDPR and sovereignty requirements.
In response to the SCS VP-05 tender, Syself is developing Cluster Stacks, a framework that extends Cluster API, enabling organizations to deploy, test, and manage Kubernetes clusters in a fully reproducible and automated manner. By adopting an "Infrastructure as Software" approach, Syself’s KaaS solution will:
Through this approach, Syself empowers organizations to focus on innovation rather than infrastructure complexity, while ensuring that their Kubernetes workloads remain secure, scalable, and sovereign.
Since July 2021, the Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS) has been an open development initiative managed by the Open Source Business Alliance (OSBA). With contributions from over 25 companies and more than 50 software developers, SCS defines and implements open cloud standards using a fully transparent development process.
SCS also plays a strategic role in Gaia-X Federation Services (GXFS/XFSC), providing the foundation for federated European cloud infrastructure. Additionally, it contributes to Germany’s Administrative Cloud (Deutsche Verwaltungscloud DVC), supporting public sector digitalization efforts.
Syself is dedicated to simplifying Kubernetes management through automation, declarative infrastructure, and open-source contributions. As a leader in Kubernetes lifecycle automation, Syself develops cutting-edge solutions based on Cluster API and cloud-native best practices, enabling organizations to run scalable, secure, and production-ready Kubernetes environments.
Syself is an active contributor to Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS), Gaia-X, and open- source Kubernetes projects, ensuring that cloud technology remains open, independent, and interoperable.
